Tour Description!

This one of a kind tour is perfect for those looking for a shorter day tour option. We begin this tour with a visit to the beautiful waterfall Goðafoss.
Your guide will tell you everything you want to know about the Icelanders,

their heritage, their humor, the local area, and answer any questions you may have. After exploring the waterfall we drive to the Old Turf house Laufas and then to the Magical House of ChristmasA great tour for families.

Goðafoss

Goðafoss is in the glacial river Skjálfandafljót and is one of Iceland´s great waterfalls.

Goðafoss plays a large part in Icelandic history.
The legend tells of a local chieftain Þorgeir, who threw statues of the pagan gods into a waterfall after the nation became Christians.

The name Goðafoss means waterfall of the gods.

Laufás

Laufás in Eyjafjörður is located by the estuary of the river Fnjóská.
The old farm is a good example of a wealthy vicarage in earlier times.

The house is a turf-clad timber building, has a history that goes back to the Middle-Ages.

The house that stands now was built between 1860 – 1877. The house is a good example of how Icelander´s built their homes using local materials that were available.

The Old Farmhouse at Laufás was last inhabited in 1936.
In 1948 the National Museum took the old house under protection and since then it has been a museum.
As you walk around the many rooms and passageways you will see artifacts originally from the Laufás household and neighboring farms. The artifacts on display give visitors a good idea of how Icelanders lived until the early 20th century.

In the church at Laufás is a pulpit from the year 1698.
However the church itself is from 1865.
The church is very traditional of many Icelandic churches and like most Icelandic churches it is a humble and beautiful building.

Christmas House

The Christmas House (Jólahúsið) is open all year round.

This magical house and garden looks like it came straight from a book of fairy tales.

Outside in the garden there are plenty of hidden things for you to find and enjoy! Upon entering the Christmas House you are greeted with the warmth of a log fire, and Christmas songs, and the scents of the festive season even in the middle of summer.

Try to find the Icelandic Yule lad´s troll mother Grýla hidden in her cave.

The Christmas House is a magical place to visit, all year round. Every corner is filled with Christmas magic so take your time to look around.

Next to the Christmas house is a wonderful shop where you can sample local jams or buy a souvenir to take home.
